Essential Safety Tips For Pneumatic Components
People and industries are always looking for more and more efficient methods of doing things, and pneumatic technology was one of the breakthroughs that came about as a result of this drive to improve on mechanical processes. Using compressed air to drive mechanical processes, pneumatic equipment is used to perform a great many tasks that would otherwise heavy and unwieldy mechanical machinery and equipment to accomplish. In order for air to do work, however, it must first be put under great pressure, so that it has the requisite force to do the work required of it. That high pressure also means that a great strain is placed on the equipment to contain the air, pneumatic components must be manufactured to the strictest quality standards in order for it to be safe for use. Moreover, the equipment itself can also be dangerous if used improperly and if proper safety procedures are not implemented and enforced. Pneumatic grippers, staplers and nail guns are just some of the pneumatic tools that have the potential to cause great injury if mishandled.
In order to maintain a safe working environment in any plant, there must ...
... be a set of comprehensive safety rules that govern the actions of workers and managers alike. Everyone must abide by these safety rules in order to ensure the safety of everyone else, and it is the responsibility of any and all to report any infringement of the safety rules. Unless this is understood by everyone, the safety rules would have no real effect, as they could as easily be ignored as followed by recalcitrant workers.
The first thing to remember when setting safety rules with regards to pneumatic equipment is that the equipment uses air that has been compressed to immense pressures. Those pressures are enough to operate machinery that a man would have no chance of moving on his own. A pneumatic nail gun, for example, fires nails at such high velocities that they are able to cut through wood as if it were butter. Such equipment must never be pointed at another person, and should always be turned to face the floor whenever it is not in use. Grippers are another example, with enough augmented force to easily crush a human hand between them, they should never be operated when any person or any part of any person’s body is within range of the gripper.
Every piece of pneumatic equipment will be rated for a certain maximum air pressure, beyond which the material might fail, causing an explosion and injury or even death. It is imperative that pneumatic equipment never be operated beyond the maximum stated air pressure, and it is recommended that the air pressure stay below the maximum, so as to provide a safety buffer and further reduce the chances of any accidents occurring.
Pneumatic equipment and components are absolutely essential to many industrial and manufacturing processes, and without it, many companies would not exist. The need for safety around pneumatic equipment is extremely high, however, particularly with hand-held tools like pneumatic grippers and nail guns that can easily be mishandled by untrained or inattentive workers.
Resource Box:
While safety rules are necessary to ensure workers act in a safe manner, the behavior of workers is sometimes beyond the control of managers. The quality of Pneumatic components , however, is not and you will find only high-quality pneumatic tools such as Pneumatic grippers and nail guns, and high-quality components at DAS Services Inc., where all your pneumatic needs will be met!
