Chennai is the capital and largest city of the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu. Situated on the Coromandel Coast off the Bay of Bengal, it is a major cultural, educational and commercial hub in southern India. It is one of the four major metropolitan cities in the country. It is a historical beautiful city and has been one of the most visited tourist destinations and gateway to the southern India. It is attracts tourists from all over the world.

Government Museum Complex: Government Museum Complex is one of the key attractions of the city. It houses Government Museum, National Art Gallery and Connemara Public Library.

Fort St George: Founded in the year 1639 Fort St George today serves administrative headquarters for the legislative assembly of Tamil Nadu state. There is Fort Museum which houses many relics of the British Raj.

Places of Worship: Chennai is very popular among tourists because of its beautiful temples and places of worship. Kapaleeshwarar Temple, Parthasarathy Temple and Vadapalani Temple are important places of worship for the Hindus. St Thomas Mount, Santhome Basilica and St George’s Cathedral are popular pilgrimage sites for the Christians. The Thousand Lights Mosque is a revered place of worship for the Muslims. It is one of the largest mosques in the country.

Kanchipuram: Kanchipuram is a famous temple city located at the distance of 72 km. It is one of the popular excursions of Chennai. It is famous for beautiful Hindu temples and nicknamed as the “City of Thousand Temples”. Varadharaja Perumal Temple (dedicated to Lord Vishnu) and Ekambaranatha Temple (dedicated to Lord Shiva) are most popular temples in the city. Kamakshi Amman Temple, Kailasanathar Temple, Kachapeshwarar Temple, etc are some other prominent temples in the city. Kanchipuram is also famous for silk sarees.

Mahabalipuram: Mahabalipuram is a historical city of Tamil Nadu located at the distance of 60 km from Chennai. It is internationally famous for various historical monuments. Mahabalipuram Group of Monuments has been classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Shore Temple, Arjuna’s Penance, Thirukadalmallai Temple (dedicated to Lord Vishnu), Descent of the Ganges, Panch Rathas, etc are important structures to see. Mahabalipuram is also famous for beautiful beaches.
