The Land of Paddy Fields, Wayanad, a district in the north-east of Kerala lies on the lofty hills of the Western Ghats at about 700 to 1200 meters above sea level. It was formed as the twelfth district of Kerala by carving out areas from the neighboring districts of Kannur and Kozhikode. The pristine beauty of this tribal land has a magnetic effect on those travelers in the quest of adventure and exploration. There are a number of state run government buses to roam around Wayanad. Tourists also enjoy roaming around the place on rented bicycles. There are regular bus services from major cities like Bangalore, Chennai and Trivandrum up to the neighboring district of Kozhikode from where one has to hire a cab or board bus to reach Wayanad. Wayand is well-connected to all the major cities through rail, road and air. The nearest airport as well as railway station is at Kozhikode which is at a distance of 98 km from Wayanad.
