How Employers Hire First Time Job Seekers
There are plenty of jobs for freshers available now-a-days. With Internet becoming the lifeline, even home-based jobs are getting popular among the first time job seekers. Before applying for such jobs, it is good to know about selection pattern. How employers recruit people. If you can understand the job search from prospective employer’s point of view, then it will save your time and money and of course needless frustration of not getting a good job.
We all know that that a good resume goes a long way in impressing prospective employers. However, this becomes effective when you know about skills of job hunting. These skills, once learnt will help you to find the right job for the next thirty years of professional life.
First time jobseekers should know how employers conduct hiring and whom they prefer to hire. If the jobseeker does not understand these issues, the confusion arises. The jobseekers receive no interview calls and cannot understand the reason for it.

Companies have a lot of hiring guidelines before they advertise for jobs. Before posting a job ad, someone from the company requires to submit a requisition for the same. In this requisition, basic job details and candidate’s qualification is mentioned. Employers then search for candidates that match the requirement. After going through resume of 20, 30 or even 50 candidates, they narrow down to few candidates who matches with their requirements. All this tracking of right candidate takes some time.
Employers only interview a handful of first time jobseekers. The interview for all the candidates may be slotted for a day. The interview may happen in several rounds and different people in the company interviews the candidate before the final selection. Even this takes time.
The entire process, right from giving ads to final selection takes about a month’s time. Finalizing the right candidate from so many is a time consuming process. Freshers or first time jobseekers should know this process of recruiting.
Is the most Qualified Candidate the Right Candidate?
In theory, it is implied the most qualified jobseeker will be selected. But in practice, this is not so. Candidates who have 3 years experience and the job requirement is 1 year is not required. Also the person whose skill sets matches with the job requirements is hired. Candidate’s are hired whose have good soft skills as well. Good communication skills, team player and ability to perform under pressure are some qualities that prospective employers look. Jobs for Freshers are available but since they have no experience, these skills matter in final selection of jobs.
One thing every jobseeker should know is that you are hired for the soft skills you possess. Always remember that you already a necessary hard skills. That why you are called for the final interview. The soft skills make you selected from your competitors.
