You know that you want to run your website from a virtual private server (VPS,) and maybe you already have a good idea of its design and layout. But do you know how to go about actually making that website to put on the VPS?

The first thing you’ll need to do is decide on a domain name (the name of your website) and see if it’s available for use by checking with a domain registrar such as Name Cheap. Once you’ve found a name that’s available you then need to research different web hosting companies that offer VPS. Some do, while others like to focus on only shared or dedicated – two options that you may have already outgrown, or aren’t yet ready for. Research the VPS plans you find depending on the amount of bandwidth and storage space you need, and how much is in your budget for web hosting. Once you’ve signed up for a plan, the web host will give you your username, password you created, and your IP address. Once that’s done it’s time to really start creating your website.

... as well (many do,) or hire a technical consultant or technical team to do the job. Building a website doesn’t require a vast amount of web design knowledge, but you will need some.

One of the reasons for this is because you’ll need to know what software you need to create your site. You might need an image editor, an HTML editor, or a WYSIWYG editor. Find out which ones you need and then these, too can be found online. Once you find them, download them.

Then it’s time to start creating the images you’ll actually be using on the site! Create an headers, backgrounds, banners, or buttons (or get your consultant to do it for you,) and save them all in your image editor.

With your page editing program open, it’s then time to start choosing the actual layout of your page and creating it. Here you’ll need to choose the color scheme, include a header image, the text that you want on your site, the images you created, and any links that you want included. Save all of your work to go back to later, or continue on with the next step.

That’s to publish your site! To do this sign onto your VPS with your username, password, and IP address that your web host gave you. Upload your website and then click on “Publish.” Sometimes it takes a few hours but before long, your website on your VPS will be up and running!

Then all that’s left for you to do is check it out and make sure everything’s functioning properly. Make sure you like the way it looks, and that all of the links are working. Then just sit back, enjoy your site, and wait for those profits to come in!
