A clutch bearing is a kind of a machine that enables power transmission between two components when both the components are engaged. Clutch bearings are utilized whenever transmission needs to be controlled whether it is over a period of time or in amount. In the most basic of applications, clutches are used in devices that feature two rotating shafts. One shaft is linked to a power unit or a motor while the other one gives the output power for the work that needs to be completed. Ideally in a drill that is torque controlled, a motor drives one shaft while the drill chuck is driven by another motor. The clutch then attaches the two shafts so that they are locked and can spin together at the same speed. When the two shafts are spinning then they are locked together but spin at varying speeds while in the disengaged stage, the two shafts are unlocked and made to spin at varying speeds.
Today clutch bearing development concentrates on simplifying the overall manufacturing method and different types of clutch bearings ensure that the manufactured process is carried along smoothly.

Centrifugal clutch:

This type of clutch is used in a host of different applications where the state of the clutch is defined through the speed of the engine. This type of clutch is also used in some of the vehicles too.
Wet and dry clutches:

A wet clutch is dipped in a cooled lubricated liquid that not only helps in keeping the surface clean but also provides longer life and better performance. However, this type of wet clutch does end up losing certain energy to the liquid. On the other hand, a dry clutch is what it says it is dry because the clutch is not covered with fluid.
Torgue limiter or slip clutch:

This type of clutch bearing is also called safety clutch and it enables the rotating shaft to slip when above normal resistance is encountered.
Dog clutch:

This type of clutch is primarily used in manual transmissions and used where slipping is not required.
Electromagnetic clutch:

This type of clutch is relies extremely on electromagnetic and this is an integral part of the clutch assembly.
Free wheel clutch:

In this case external force enables the driven member to rotate quicker than the driver and one of the examples of this clutch can be found in helicopters where the rotor drive train makes use of freewheeling clutch to separate the rotors from the engine in case of an engine failure. This enables the helicopter to descend and land safely with the help of autorotation.
Wrap-spring clutches:

This clutches posses a helical spring wound and in the most basic form the spring is connected to the driven member at one end while the other end remains unconnected. The spring is closely tied around the cylindrical driving member.
These are just some of the different types of clutch bearings that one can find and use for a host of different applications.
