Wedding anniversaries, like birthdays, come once a year. Like birthdays too they are a cause for celebration and what better way to celebrate than to have a party? Whether it’s held in the Royal or in your back yard doesn’t matter at all. What matters is that it’s fun and that it has wedding anniversary speeches or toasts.

Why is that so important? Well a wedding anniversary celebrates some of the most important things in life such as faithfulness and vows being kept. It celebrates the survival of a marriage at a time when marriage is certainly under attack. Wedding anniversary speeches should, therefore, mention these facts.

Party speeches should never be too long despite the fact that a speaker such as a son or daughter may want to mention all the wonderful things parents have done. Instead they should compress their praise in short, sincere sentences.

Wedding anniversary speeches should mention the particular anniversary of course. Most parties are held on silver, ruby and golden anniversaries. So the speaker will naturally speak of those valuable jewels and mention the fact the good marriage ...
... is like such a jewel. However, every anniversary deserves to be celebrated and no party should be put off simply because a couple have only been married for 24 years of 39 years. It’s still a cause for celebration although perhaps not on a large scale.

Wedding anniversary speeches should mention family and friendship and what they mean to the couple. It may be appropriate to mention someone dear to them who had died but not if it will upset them because that would be unfortunate at a party. The speaker should also mention just how special the couple is to him or to her.

What is said in wedding anniversary speeches will differ of course depending on who is speaking. A son or a daughter will speak perhaps of their growing years and the influence mom and dad had on him or her. Obviously too either one could speak of family memories over the years. A neighbour might speak of the kindliness and helpfulness of the couple. A friend might speak of just how much that couple has meant to him or her during their years of friendship.

No matter who gives anniversary speeches they should be complimentary in tone. They should present a kaleidoscope of the years that are past and end with a toast for many more years of happiness.
