Kundalini Yoga As Taught By Yogi Bhajan
Yoga, the physical, mental, and spiritual discipline of Ancient India believes that an unconscious force –Kundalini– resides in the human organism. The literal meaning of Kundalini is coiled, the reason why it is represented pictorially as a snake. It resides in three and a half coils in the sacrum bone. When this Kundalini is aroused and controlled by the mind it enhances health, creates more awareness, and radiates a general feeling of well-being.
Yoga is not a simple exercise regime nor a therapy designed for treating disease. It is a way of life – a comprehensive solution that incorporates numerous routines; including righteous actions, devotion to God, releasing built-up energy, meditation, and gaining knowledge. It is a practice that involves the use of breath along with certain yogic poses.
This is one discipline that has the capacity of providing the combined benefits of active fitness programs, breathing exercises, and meditation. The end goal is to activate the Kundalini, the subtle power that lies dormant in every human being and to achieve a stress free state of mind; where neither good nor bad ...
... situations elicit emotional responses.
While all types of yoga are targeted towards awaking the Kundalini, Yogi Bhajan introduced Kundalini Yoga to the United States. Kundalini Yoga is designed to work faster and often termed as yoga of awareness. It works directly to awaken the subtle, sleeping energy within the body.
Kundalini Yoga adheres to the basic three tenets of traditional yoga: Disciple, self awareness, and self dedication. It combines all the techniques required for relief from physical and mental stress. Maya Fiennes is a teacher who is well known for her Kundalini Yoga DVDs, music, and books.
