These bacteria form a sticky plaque that clings to the surface of your teeth. Acids produced by the bacteria in plaque can eat through the hard, white coating on the outside of your teeth (enamel), creating a cavity. The first sign of decay may be a sensation of pain when you eat something sweet, very cold or very hot. • Put a combine of cloves between your aching tooth and your cheek and hold it there like a man would with chewing tobacco. Allow the hard, seed-like cloves to soak in your saliva for some minutes to soften them up and then slowly gnaw on them like you would a toothpick. The soothing oils of the cloves are released into the area surrounding your aching tooth, relieving the tooth ache. Allow the cloves to sit for about 30 minutes or until the tooth pain subsides. You can continue this medicine as often as vital until you get in to see the dentist.
• Apply an over-the-counter tooth-pain ointment such as Anbesol or Orajel.

These are numbing agents that are designed to soothe mouth pain. Take care to consequent the directions on the label.
