Teenagers are another phenomenon that, while not necessarily invented by the Yanks, we can certainly claim to have conceived and popularised. The notion of adolescents as a demographic as well as a financial power to be reckoned with is largely based around blossoming romance, and there are 50 million young people a week going on dates in the US. Gone are the days of sock hops and the like, so what are these star-crossed lovers doing with themselves? Driving their escalade to Make-Out Point and watching YouTube videos on their iPads? Not likely!

Teens these days love hip-hop, so what better than a trip to the local club for a show? Although most clubs operate a 21-and-over policy (as you may know, this is the legal drinking age in America) there are plenty of underage venues to go and watch the latest performers like Wiz Khalifa and Wacka Flocka Flame on national tours as well as local artists who are about to break the national ...
... scene. Although it may not seem romantic to the older generation, this music brings thousands of American teens together through a mutual love of bumping beats and slick rhymes.

One tradition that remains strong after many years is college athletics, particularly basketball and American football. It’s an exhilarating feeling to be part of the school spirit, the roaring crowd, the cracking of heads on the gridiron, and the crackling excitement of young love in the bleachers. Plus, you can see the next wave of sports stars battling to get a place on the NFL or NBA draft list for a fraction of the ticket price that you’ll be forking out in the big leagues. So –teenagers, go forth and enjoy the traditions of the past with a modern twist!

Much like with anything, it seems to be that the USA is the world power of romance. With the economic power shifting towards the East, will Bollywood be the next centre of dating? Will courting in Shanghai be the new dating in Philadelphia?
