Yes, You Can Hold A Cornhole Tournament
You can organize a Cornhole tournament if you love playing the game with friends, family, and people who just like to get together and play the game. This isn't as hard as it sounds, but it does take some work. You not only need to know what you have to have, but what everyone else wants and needs, as well. You also have to decide what kind of prizes you're going to offer and whether you want to have a cash prize. Another important issue is how much you plan to charge people for participation in the tournament. If it's too much, you won't have anyone interested in taking part. If you don't charge enough the trophies and prizes won't be very good because you won't have enough to pay for them. You certainly don't want to pay for them yourself. Finding out how much local interest is in your area is the best way to start organizing your Cornhole tournament. If there aren't enough players in the immediate vicinity you might not be able to have a tournament. Much of this depends on the driving distance that most people would accept. If they won't drive very far, it's not a good idea to try to convince them to, unless the prize is ...
... something that's really worth winning.
Big prizes aren't necessarily needed for a lot of Cornhole tournaments. Instead, they just rely on the idea that people will enjoy the competition and that will be prize enough. After determining that you've got enough interest in your tournament, you should advertise the cost to enter, what the prizes will be, and the date and time that the tournament will take place. Try to pick a time of year when it's not terribly hot outside or freezing cold. This should still be a consideration if the tournament is held indoors, but it's less of an issue that way. Even if they can play indoors, out of the elements, a lot of people won't be that interested in coming out if the weather is very bad. You also have to be aware of the times that most people are working or doing something else, and weekends when there are other major activities planned out. For example, you won't want to hold your tournament on a Wednesday afternoon. Most people couldn't attend then, because they would be working.
You'll also need to decide whether this will be a tournament for adults only. If children are going to be in the tournament, what are the age groupings and cut-offs? It would not be fair to put a 10 year old against a 70 year old. You don't want a lot of players just standing around, so making sure you have enough Cornhole boards is a vital part of the tournament. You want a lot of games going on at one time. You shouldn't be the one going out and purchasing all the Cornhole sets. A lot of the players will be able to donate them for the day, and if there is a Cornhole group in your area, they should be able to help you organize the tournament and provide some boards that you can use.
