An increasing number of people are suffering from health related issues, which were unheard before. Bunion is one such problem which has become very common nowadays. Known as hallux valgus in medical field, it is a deformity that occurs at the joint of the big toe. In simple words, bunion is the condition where the big toe turns slightly inwards towards the second toe and a lump appears at the joint. The size of the lump can very but it can be very painful, irrespective of whether it is small or big. This irregularity in the shape of the toes can affect stability or balance in an individual.

There can be many reasons for the occurrence of bunions on feet. It can be heredity or caused by a number of other reasons such as joint destruction due to arthritis or wearing ill fitting shoes. The latter is the most common issue which can lead to the occurrence of this highly painful and inconvenient condition. It might not be very problematic in the initial stage but can become painful after reaching a particular size. Excessive weight load ...
... or foot pressure can lead to significant increase in its size. If not treated on time, this condition can spread to other toes as well, increasing the chances of permanent damage to the foot.

Regular or interrupted pain, irregular shape and restricted movement of the big toe, are some prime symptoms of bunions. The area where the bunions occur can become red and swollen, which is a clear indication of the beginning of this problem. It can be further confirmed with the help of an x-ray. It is only after a correct diagnosis that the actual treatment can start.

The range of treatments that follow the diagnosis can vary from medical procedures to some lifestyle changes. If diagnosed at an initial stage, this problem can be prevented with regular foot massage and some medication. The person who is suffering from this condition should give some rest to his feet by avoiding excessive walking. One of the most effective solutions is to stop wearing shoes which are too tight as this problem can get further aggravated due to continuous use of tight shoes. Women should avoid shoes with high heels and pointed toes, as the toe gets cramped due to its pointed shape and it is one of the major causes of bunions on feet.

Due to bunions the forefoot can become very wide, making it impossible to wear regular shoes. Specially made shoes are more appropriate for such conditions. Some reputed companies have started manufacturing special shoes for people who are already suffering from this problem. The design and shape, along with the material which is used in these shoes, is such that it provides full comfort and convenience to the wearer. These shoes are just like normal shoes in appearance, but have a slightly wider in the front. This shape is perfect to accommodate the wide toe, without any discomfort. Wearing these shoes can reduce the chances of developing the condition any further.
