Affordable Health Care Part 2

With the cost of providing a professional medical service to American families rising, it is not surprising that many people are looking for an affordable health care provider. Workers are being hit hard by employers anxious to save money on their premiums by reducing cover or passing on the rises in cost. I am one of those people affected by these rises because a couple of years ago my companys health care plan was changed, resulting in fewer benefits. Suddenly, my employer announced it was getting too expensive and was switching health care providers.
Unfortunately, the old system did not benefit everyone in the company but the new one would, it was claimed. Although I am just as well looked after with this new policy, I am not entirely convinced. The problem is that in an effort to find a less expensive insurance, having my husband and daughter on the policy is now costing twice the amount it did before. Lower cost cover may be available for all my colleagues now plus the company has saved money but if I want to keep my family on the plan, I will have to settle for a lower income.
To be honest, I got on well ...
... with the old provider but cannot see that happening here even if the health care plan is half decent. It is all very well making the excuse that you are searching for a more affordable health care alternative but it does not wash when you see reducing your income but also out of pocket expenses also. I know this because my old plan paid all of my hospital expenses when I had my little girl just over 4 years ago. This new plan, under similar circumstances however, would personally cost me in excess of 5,000 dollars.
This figure does not take into account additional amounts I must pay out of my salary. We are now seeing an increasing number of companies creating affordable health care plans. Those less fortunate can now get free health care more readily and workers without health care are able to join special schemes. Although these programs are a good idea for those less fortunate there are always people who want to abuse the system.
Perhaps some form of means testing is needed for people so that only genuine cases have the benefit of affordable health care. We all have a responsibility to help those less fortunate but those who abuse the system put extra financial pressure on the rest of us. Financially speaking, my company saw the real advantage to this switch and some of the employees. However, their money saving technique wasn't good news to employees because suddenly we were making up for their cost cutting endeavor - by seeing less money in our paychecks. Affordable health care is a long term issue that needs addressing in this country because it is those worst off who are affected.
