The Cabbage Soup Diet is an interesting diet from the point of view that it can be readily classified as being part of the series of diets known as fad diets. These are diets that are designed to get you results in the short term and therefore are also diets that do not require a long term commitment. This is helpful for people that need to lose weight in preparation for a particular event that is coming up and it is also helpful for people that need to have a week of high weight loss in order to get the initiative up to go for targets that are bigger and better. While the Cabbage Soup Diet will not provide you with the long term weight loss that you might want, there is the potential for you to lose a significant amount of weight over the short course of the diet.

Typically speaking, the Cabbage Soup Diet is seven days long. On each of those days, you are tasked with eating cabbage soup for the vast majority of your meal intake, although on different days you can add different things to the cabbage soup that you eat. For example, a typical diet might have you eating cabbage soup every day for a week, but allow you to ...
... eat fruit on three of the days, vegetables on three of the days, meat on three of the days and a number of other assorted foods in between. However, the majority of your food intake needs to come from cabbage soup for the diet to be considered genuine and that is where the diet gets its name.

In terms of terminology, there are a number of different diets on the market that have very similar circumstances to the cabbage soup diet. Military cabbage soup diet would be another name for this diet and some have also referred to it as being the Russian Peasant Diet. While all three of these different diets will deny having any relationship with the other, if you look at the actual plans it is easy to see that a large amount of similarity does indeed exist between those different diet plans.

In terms of execution, the cabbage soup diet is extremely difficult to execute. This is perhaps relatively obvious to note since the cabbage soup diet forces you to eat the same thing most of the time for seven days. While you might grow to hate cabbage soup by the end of the diet, the short term weight loss that you will receive is likely to be significant, although the creators of the diet do not promise anything.
