Many business owners want to start their business in a flash, they do not take the time necessary to plan their business success properly or perform research into what the crucial steps to a successful business are. There are many good resources of information on the Internet where great advice can be found. The most important aspect of the business is the business image, starting with the logo. The logo is the brand of the business, then business cards and a website is a great way to provide information to prospectives and clients/customers.

Now, common mistakes are:

1. Designed by an amateur

If a design company is charging too little for their design services then as they say it is 'too good to be true'. The case will be that the company is new and they want to establish a list of clients, therefore ...
... they offer their services for almost nothing, compared to a reputable and established design company. They may offer a 100% money back guarantee, if they do why would they offer this guarantee? Unless they are not sure that they can deliver as promised.

A reputable design company will not need to provide such offers as they are sure that they can deliver and usually they can with great success and effectiveness. By paying an amateur your business image will look amateur also.

2. Hurrying up the design process

Many clients make the mistake of not allowing time for their logo design, web design or other important design project. Designers require the time that is necessary to be able to design quality work. The client should allow enough time for the planning, design and overall process to take place. After all it is the image of the company and in the best interest of the client they should not be hurrying up the process as this could affect the outcome of the design.

Some amateur companies will promise a logo in e.g. 24 hours, why is this bad? Many reasons but two most important reasons are, the designer will not give your logo much thought at all and the quality of the design may be very low. There is a process in every logo design. There is planning, design and revisions. The revisions allow the client to provide feedback and their input into how they would like the design enhanced, this is a crucial process that should not be hurried, it is only once in the lifetime of the business that usually the business logo is designed, therefore it is important that enough thought and consideration is given to the design of the logo.

3. The client tells the designer how to design

The clients feedback is important so that the design can be personalised to the client's needs. But how much should the client be involved in the design? It is important for the designer to have input from the client to be able to advance with the logo design process but the client should always consider the recommendations of the designer as the designers conduct research, planning and have experience in creating business brands. They are usually creative and the creativeness the designer has should be something that the client takes advantage in their best interest.

Many time designers provide great concepts to clients at the initial revision, then the initial concepts are presented to the client and the client wants the logo enhanced to suit their preferences, while not considering their target market, industry, products & services and competititors. The logo may end up looking amateur or unprofessional.

So remember to select a reputable design company or you may end up paying more to have a logo designed again. Give the designer the necessary time and let the designer provide their recommendations and respect their experience in your best interest.
