Slough In England

Located within the ceremonial county of Berkshire, Slough is a unitary authority area. According to the 2001 census the population of Slough stood at 119,070 which were expected to rise to 122,000 in 2006. Slough is also one of the most ethnically diverse areas located outside London. Slough is also recognized as one of the most important business centres of south-eastern England. Slough is also home of UK's first estate called the Slough Trading Estate which along with the extensive transportation links makes it really important. The Thames Valley University is also located at Slough.
History of Slough:
Slough has been a centre of attraction for a very long time among the people, but it was in 1918 which was a turning point of major change. It was during this period that a major part of agricultural land in the western part of Slough was turned into an army motor repair shop. This depot was used for the repair of a huge number of motor vehicles damaged during the First World War. The site was sold to Slough Trading Company Ltd in 1920 and after passing the Slough Trading Company Act in 1925 it was transformed ...
... into world's first industrial estate. The growing employment and other advantages of the area began attracting workers from all over the UK which ensured a bright future for Slough.
Slough has undergone major changes in the centre of its town. Some of the old buildings have been replaced by newly built shopping complexes and offices. The project named Heart of Slough is one of the most ambitious multi million pound projects aiming for the development of the centre of the city.
