Although getting the best grades is still important to get into university and to get a good education, there are also other aspects of the child’s development that need to be addressed to ensure that they will be successful. Today’s parents are looking for more than education focused on passing examinations. Today’s parents want their children to have a wholesome education. It is no wonder that Memphis Montessori schools are becoming more popular every day.

Before delving into the scientific findings on the education system, it is important to understand a little about its background. The Montessori system that is used in many private schools in Memphis is an educational system that was developed by an Italian educator by the name Maria Montessori. She developed the system primarily to teach poor children in her country. However, the success of the system has seen it being adapted by hundreds of thousands of schools around the world.

Montessori schools in Memphis differ from other public schools in that they emphasize the personal development of their students as opposed to their success in examinations. The Montessori system in fact rarely uses examinations for measuring the progress of the students. However, scientists have found that students who undergo the Montessori system such as that emphasized in many private schools in Memphis still perform just as well or better in traditional examinations of spelling, grammar and punctuation when compared with students undertaking traditional education systems.

The study in the US was carried out in Milwaukee and ensured that all students were chosen from groups of similar social status to reduce bias. Children were randomly selected by lottery too. The children from the traditional and Montessori educational systems were tested for their performance in social skills, academic ability and behavioral skills.

Children in Montessori programs such as those in many Memphis private schools were found to have higher scores in executive function. Executive function is the ability of the child to adapt to dynamic and complex problems. This is usually used by psychologists as an indicator of the child’s future success in life and school. Older children in the Montessori schools were also found to have a better chance of choosing positive responses to unpleasant situations.

The study concluded that the Montessori system as that used in Memphis Montessori Schools and other Memphis private schools showed superior results to other systems.
