When they turn in their nickel-metal hydride batteries, the rare earth metals can ultimately be salvaged, reprocessed, and recycled into new Honda parts.

Zero-Waste to Landfill Manufacturing
In North America, Honda has improved manufacturing processes with 10 out of 14 manufacturing facilities having reached its zero-waste to landfill goal. What's the big deal? These factories have the capacity to manufacture over three million Acura and Honda cars each year. Less than one half of one percent of manufacturing waste goes into a landfill. Everything else is recycled or reused.
