There is somewhat of an obesity crisis in the UK and many other countries in the west. A combination of increasingly sedentary lifestyles and poor diet choices, high in processed foods and junk foods have led to an increase in the weight of the population. It is obviously desirable to take action to prevent obesity before weight gain has occurred, but for a great deal of people, it is simply too late and for those people, bariatric surgery really could be a lifesaver.

Obesity Problems

Individuals who are obese are more likely to suffer from a wide range of health conditions including heart attacks and diabetes, so getting their weight under control is something which is extremely important.

For the obese, it is always preferable to lose weight the natural way, with a combination of diet and exercise but, this is extremely difficult for many. When diet and exercise does not work, bariatric surgery is an excellent option which will help them to get their weight down and improve their lives immensely.

Bariatric Surgery

Bariatric surgery may be known more commonly to most as weight loss surgery. ...
... There are several different bariatric surgery options available but, they all aim to reduce weight by limiting the amount of food that patients can intake at any time.

Bariatric surgery usually reduces the size of the stomach or intestine so that less food can be consumed, there are a number of ways this can be done from removing large portions of the stomach with gastric sleeve surgery, to using gastric band surgery to shrink the stomach’s capacity.

Who Can Have Bariatric Surgery?

If you are just looking to lose a stone or two, bariatric surgery is not for you. In order to be eligible for and benefit from the surgery, you should be classified as obese and have a BMI of around 40. There are some exceptions to this though. For example, if you are suffering from a serious medical condition which is being worsened by your weight, you may also be able to have the bariatric surgery to help improve your condition.

Bodycraft are one of the top providers of weight loss surgery in the UK. They offer all manner of bariatric surgery from gastric bypass to gastric bands and gastric sleeve procedures.
