Help I am a beginner photographer who had been presented with a very smart and expensive camera as a gift. I was very pleased with it as I really like taking photos to record our holidays and family celebrations. I was pleased to be able to point and shoot and know that would get a decent photo. But when I was reviewing the photos taken on a recent hill-walking holiday in Switzerland I began to realise that this was all that I did indeed have, decent photos. They were dull, repetitive and quite frankly rather uninteresting.

I was showing them to a friend, who has a similar camera, and she explained that I have a high spec DSLR(Digital Simple Lens Reflex) camera which I needed to learn to use to its full potential. It really was not good enough to stay with the safety of the automatic settings. If I wanted something different, more creative and certainly more interesting then I had to wean myself off the basic settings.

Now I am certainly not the type of person who can do this from a manual, no matter how basic the instructions and illustrations. So I went on line, as you do nowadays, to see what was available ...
... and if any courses would suit my needs. I knew that my camera was DSLR so was delighted to see that I could attend a day course which specifically dealt with this.

The course would show me how to take portraits better, how to present the subject to best effect. Particular attention would be paid to composition, so no more stilted poses with the subject staring directly into the camera bang in the middle of the foreground. For landscapes there will be opportunities to learn how to choose a composition as well as how to create atmosphere by adjusting the background focus and lighting.

At the same time instruction would be given on the other technical specifications specific to DSLR cameras and any pertaining to my own camera. Also if I had particular interests the course is adaptable to this. So I have booked myself in and am eagerly awaiting two weekends hence.

So if you are like me keen to develop your photographic skills to get the best out of your camera then find yourself a DSLR photography course and leave behind the restrictions of the automatic settings on your camera. You will become the boss in charge of your camera and not the other way round. Photography Made Simple can offer a range of photography courses that are fun and creative.
