Diabetes is one of the most rapidly growing chronic diseases of the present time. The disease has been spreading its wings taking millions in its fold. Diabetes or Diabetes mellitus as it is known can prove to be fatal unless regular care is strictly followed. The disease has the capacity to affect vital parts of the body if not controlled. This apart, there are other major hospitals in the country which today have diabetes units to deal with the disease, indicating the seriousness of this dreaded disease.

Manned by a multidisciplinary team, these centres would not only act as referral points for addressing diabetic foot complications but also create awareness on the importance of foot care among diabetics.
