Once hair is cut, that's it. It has to grow back out and then be cut again. Unfortunately, you can't go around to different places and let each one cut your hair and choose which one you feel best about. What you can do, however, is a little bit of homework. Generally, how a person's hair looks really matters to that person. You don't want a bad haircut. Even if other people really don't take much notice of it, you certainly will. It can seriously ruin a person's day if they get a haircut that they don't like. In addition to taking a really long time to let it grow out, trying to make it look nice during that time can be very upsetting. It's similar to when someone has short hair and decides to grow it out long. That 'growing out phase' occurs where the person's hair is basically just existing with no apparent style. It won't do anything. It can't have a cute, short style because it's too long. It's too short for things like braids and ponytails. People who want their short hair to get long know that this will take place, and that their hair will be hard to work with for a while.

They either want their hair to stay in the same style and they just need a trim or they have seen a new style that they really want to have for themselves. They visualize how good it will look, and when it doesn't they're very disappointed. This can occur if the hairstyle they have chosen is the wrong one for the shape of their face. Other times, however, it's because the stylist didn't cut your hair correctly. When that happens there's nothing you can do except wait until your hair gets long enough to be cut into a different style. If you can get a good style out of that cut that's great, but if not you might be pretty upset for a few weeks. If your hair has been cut too short and really can't have any style at all, this can be especially problematic. There are some ways that you can work to avoid this problem, however, and you need to ensure that the stylist knows what he or she is doing. The talents of stylists vary widely beyond the basic requirements that they need to meet. Not everyone is as naturally gifted at cutting hair as other people.

Talking to some of the stylist's customers is a great idea if possible. Look at their hair. Find out if the work that was done on them made them happy. If they aren't find out why not. You can also ask your family members and your friends which stylist they see and why. Most good stylists don't mind you asking questions of them, either, and when you do that you'll have the chance to get a better idea of their personality. That can be very important. You want a great haircut, but you also want a stylist that you enjoy being around. If you are planning on recommending your stylist to anyone else, or if you're planning on getting your hair cut or styled quite often, this is vital. How well a person treats you is often as important as how good they are at their profession and how much they charge. All areas of your criteria will be met by a quality stylist.
