Nissan India Posts 98% Growth In Sales On The Back Of Nissan Sunny And Micra

Nissan India posted 98 percent growth in sales in the month of May 2012 with 3,138 units sold in the month of May as compared to 1,588 units sold last year in the same time period.The sales growth was majorly driven by two of the popular cars from Nissan India’s clan, namely Nissan Sunny and Nissan Micra.Nissan Motors India launch Nissan Sunny sedan in India last year in the month of September. The Nissan Sunny Price in India has been tagged competitively for both petrol and diesel versions and that is also one fothe reasons that the sedan is selling in good numbers. The sedan is manufactured at the company’s manufacturing unit located in Chennai. The sedan is selling in good numbers every month and has contributed massively towards the company’s sales ever since its launch in India.

... massive jump in sales in India, one of the officials from Nissan stated that despite the slowdown in India and spiraling high prices of fuel Nissan India has seen robust growth in the last few months. This growth has been on the back of Nissan Sunny sedan mainly.The company is now gearing up to launch Nissan Evalia MPV in India which it expects to launch in the second half of the year 2012. Renault-Nissan jv is now thinking on the lines to expand its manufacturing by capacity in India to 8,00,000 units at its Chennai facility by the year 2015.
The allies are planning to include at least 20-22 cars between them including all categories in the coming 4 to 5 years. This will help them to defy other auto companies in India like Maruti Suzuki India and Hyundai Motors India. The partners are also pondering to set up manufacturing units at either Gujarat, Maharashtra and Karnataka, however, the company has planned to make Chennai as the base for the production unit.This plan of expanding the production capacity and enhancing the portfolio in India is not as easy as it looks; taking on the market leaders like Maruti Suzuki India and Hyundai India would not be that easy.
Renault and Nissan are thinking to produce 3,00,000 cars out of which around 70% will be shipped to overseas market. Though the company eyes to raise the domestic sales and pull down export components to 30-40 per cent.The company is aiming at 90-95% of localization by the year 2013 and is also working toward achieving that. Renault and Nissan have set up a common R&D centre which is located in Chennai and has over 2000 engineers and technicians working on several projects for Renault as well as Nissan for local and global projects.
The partners are revamping its R&D by including a component validation centre source parts locally, not only this but the alliance has also invited more than 100 vendors to set up shop in Chennai.The total supplier base comprise of 225 companies out of which around 60% of the suppliers are based out in Chennai or near Chennai. Twenty five more suppliers are likely to set up plants soon in Chennai.
Nissan India sold around 33,275 units in financial year 2011-2012 which is around 200% more as compared to last financial year. On the other hand Renault India sold just a few thousand units of Renault Fluence and Renault Koleos in India last fiscal year. Nissan thinks that Indian car market will play a major role in it achieving power 88 plan; 8% global market share by the year 2016, also the Japanese auto maker is eyeing to spread its dealership network to 450 by 2016. Nissan Officials believe that the firm will achieve the double digit mark by 2016.
