3 Top Gutter & Roof Issues—and How To Fix Them For Article Marketing

Read on to find out about the top roof and gutter problems and how you can easily repair them yourself.
1. Clogged gutters
This is, by far, the most common gutter issue. If you’ve neglected your gutters and haven’t cleaned them in quite some time, then you’re probably quite familiar with the fact that they can become clogged with ice, leaves, twigs, or other yard debris. Clogged Gutters can lead to fairly serious issues, as the clogs prevent rain from flowing freely and away from your home. The debris can also turn into a sludge-like material which will eventually weather your gutters.
To fix clogging issues, get out your ladder and get ready for some hard work. Carefully inspect each section of gutter and clear them out by removing the debris. After you’ve removed the debris with your gloved hands, use a hose to flush the gutters out an ensure that water can flow freely. In order to prevent clogs from happening again, consider installing gutter leaf guards.
2. Bending or warping
Unfortunately, this is one of those issues that is somewhat inevitable ...
... as gutters age. As the years pass by and your gutter’s hangars and hardware weather and age, your rain gutters could become weighed down by debris or could begin to pull away from your home.
If you find that your gutters are starting to warp or bend with old age, then your first step is to install new gutter fasteners and hangers on those sections that are warped or sagging. The installation for hangers is very simple, and the hardware is inexpensive, so you won’t find yourself emptying your bank account. If after replacing the hardware your gutters won’t seat properly, you may find that you need to replace a section or two of the gutter itself. If you have seamless gutters, don’t try to do this on your own—instead, call a roofing professional.
3. Improper pitching
This issue can occur when gutters are installed in a hasty manner or when they’re simply pitched improperly. It’s quite simple to determine whether or not your rain gutters are pitched properly. Grab that ladder once again and climb up on your roof. Check each section of your gutters to ensure that they’re pitched downward at least a quarter-inch for every ten feet of gutter.
If they’re not pitched properly, don’t panic. You can adjust your gutter’s pitch by re-hanging the affected areas or bending hangers to accommodate for rainwater flow. However, if you have seamless gutters, then you’ll need to consult with a professional to fix your gutter’s pitching issue.
