India is a country where people believe in the continuity of tradition. In the distant past when the monarchs ruled the country, they valued aesthetic developments. As such, the kings and the princess throughout India maintained bedecked courts. They appointed gifted scholars, poets, authors and painters as distinguished members of their courts with respect. Time has changed today. The kings and their royal courts are lost today in the pages history. Although, few erstwhile royal families have taken this measure a level higher. They have nursed and cultivated talents within their family and have made invaluable gift to the society. The legendary S D Burman who was born a prince in the Tripura Royal Family is one such example. This family has a historic bonding with many famous writers in Kolkata, including Rabindranath Tagore.

Art and culture has always been the central source of sustenance for the city of Kolkata. Even in our time, this tradition is still proudly continuing. As such, there has never been any dearth of writer in Kolkata. From the days of the exiled Nawab of Oudh, Wajed Ali Shah, writer in Kolkata have never failed to bloom full to their potential. This Nawab’s literary creations in Urdu are still devoured by many. An innumerable number of writer in Kolkata have contributed richly to both English and Bengali literature. However, Gurudev rose the highest among them all. The moon and the stars so beautifully adore the night sky. Nevertheless, when the sun rises, the other celestial objects fade behind it. Such is the impact of Tagore in the world of literature. Even Sarat Chandra was highly adored for being able to feel for the existing society of his time. After these towering personas bid goodbye to the world, a new age started in Bengali literary world. An array of very talented and sensitive people emerged to be famous writer in Kolkata. They are keeping the common people mesmerized with their in-depth understanding of the time, society and human mind and unbelievable grip in expressing their minds in form of words. Here names are not required. Truly saying, these names are countless. The way they have been portraying the contemporary society and its existing values is as unique as one can imagine.

Bengali literature as well as the language is becoming more enriched and durable with these contributions. Once, not a very long ago thousands and lacks of Bengalis laid down their life for sake of their mother tongue. Maybe their sacrifice is being honored today through these developments.
