Subaru: The Group Of Stars Shining Brightly On Earth
The Pleiades star cluster is one of a few star groups that are so close to Earth, it’s crystal clear to the naked eye. While this cluster had dozens of bright stars, for one Japanese car producer, it only needed six stars to fit in its logo. The company also went as far as naming itself after this group of stars in Japanese: Subaru.
Before Subaru came into form, its roots can be traced back to a company focused on producing aircraft. As the Nakajima Aircraft Company from 1935 to 1945, the company produced some of the best fighter planes during the World War II. After the war, the company was reformed again to focus on making cars. In 1953, five small companies decided to merge with the reformed Fuji Sangyo Company to establish Subaru’s parent, Fuji Heavy Industries.
The six stars on the current Subaru logo showed the six companies that merged in 1953 to form the iconic car brand. The company introduced its first car, the P-1, which was renamed as the Subaru 1500 in 1955. While it didn’t achieve much success due to lack of funding, the P-1 was where the Earth-based Pleiades began to shine.
In 1984, ...
... Subaru made its mark in car history by creating the first electro-continuously variable transmission (ECVT). The simple mechanism of the ECVT allowed the driver to control the car’s speed without the need for multifaceted gears. Without it, drivers may have a hard time going to high speed from low speed.
Currently, Subaru has seven different models, including one modified variant of the World Rally Championship veteran Impreza. Apparently, they weren’t kidding when they placed their current slogan “Confidence in motion.” Many of its models continue to enjoy high-pitch sales years after they rolled into the car market, notably the Impreza. Ask a Subaru dealer Edmonton has to offer and he may start listing down the things that make this brand popular.
Perhaps, there’s something the six stars logo has taught people – when you put little things in a single package, they can achieve greater heights. This is also the case with the Pleiades, as its collection of stars made it one of the brightest star clusters in the universe. So the next time you buy a car from Subaru dealers in Edmonton, you’re buying a piece of that great star.
