First have a quick go-through of the basics. The water heaters are of two types, namely electric and gas-fueled. When choosing one, make your choice by checking the power consumption ratings indicated on the unit.

When installing the water heater, whether gas or electric, all the power connections to the old unit should be turned off. Then you must disconnect the old hot and cold water pipe connections after draining the hot water tank. In order to drain out the water from the tank, a hose pipe is needed to hook up to the outlet at the bottom of the tank.

After making the old unit empty, detach it from the clamps and make room for the new water heater. The next step is to connect it to the power source. In case of a gas-fuelled unit, the gas line is required to be attached to the fuel vent. The new unit can now be turned on and filled with cold water after making all the necessary connections.
