There are numerous types of batteries that are used in large-scale energy storage. All incorporate electrochemical cells though no single cell type is relevant for all applications.

Battery And Storage Devices

Flow batteries are developing energy storage devices having capability of serving multiple purposes in energy delivery systems. Research group the Fraunhofer Institute is the process of developing a giant 20-MWh flow battery. A 20-kW facility is in the pipe line for the operational next year; and the research team is in the hope to cross the megawatt threshold within five years.
