The town of Fuengirola lies close to the more famous Malaga at twenty miles away. One can access Fuengirola easily through the available main train station at Jesus Santos Rein Avenue. This delightful train ride from Malaga offers some interesting and quaint countryside sights with stops at various towns like Torreblanca, Carvajal and Los Boliches. The traveler would enjoy the different sights and natural beauty along the journey to fully appreciate Fuengirola.

Transportation services

One can travel by train to move out of Fuengirola to Malaga directly to the latter’s international airport. This makes it very convenient for holiday makers to ensure catching their flights out of Spain as the train journey is regular and comfortable. There are also the local bus services which a local terminus functions to serve the whole area of Fuengirola. Buses ply the town roads regularly as well as along Costa del Sol to some major towns. This allows holiday makers to enjoy many day trips and excursions while making Fuengirola their holiday base.

The colorful history of Fuengirola can be secured from the local town museum, Museo de Historia. A lot of historical relics have been excavated from around the region; the items are labeled in Spanish which may not benefit foreign visitors who do not know Spanish. Among the interesting displays is the famous town statue, Venus de Fuengirola, which is a noted 1st century finding. The Fuengirola Zoo is a very popular tourist spot. This local zoo houses many tropical species living in a simulated natural habitat.

Cages and fences are not obvious with popular animals sighted; these include tigers, lemurs, meerkats, gibbons and monkeys. Evening sightings are available too during peak seasons to allow tourists a feel of the nocturnal life of the animals. The town’s Parque Acuatico Mijas is another popular attraction. This water parks offers exciting pools and water flumes for some great wet rides.
