Awnings To Add Practicality And Style To Your Home

Awnings are additional covers attached to the exterior walls of buildings as a means of protection from the sun and rain when outdoors. Also known as an overhang, an awning consists of canvas which is made of polyester yarn, cotton, or acrylic that is stretched over a frame made out of steel, iron, transparent material, aluminum, or sometimes even wood. Awnings are generally fixed above windows, doors, or a space over a sidewalk. In cases where poles are attached, an awning turns into a canopy and can extend from buildings to provide shade for the passersby, for example many hotels have canopies extending from the front door. An awning can be attached to almost any type of surface whether it is brick, wood, or stone. Awnings can add a sense of elegance, style, and charm to your home or shop.
Awnings Since Ancient Times
Awnings are used by many businesses especially restaurants and cafés where awnings not only provide shade, but also extra space for dining, receptions, and parties outside, thereby allowing them to increase the capacity of customers. Awnings have been used since ancient times when it was used ...
... as coverings over stalls in markets. One of the most famous uses of an awning was in the Colosseum in Ancient Rome where a retractable awning used to be spread out over stands as a shade for the audience. Retractable awnings are also ideal in places where it is very windy.
The Many Uses of a Retractable Awning
There are two main types of awnings available; static awnings are those that are permanent whereas retractable awnings can be closed or folded back when not needed. The former is generally used in simple gardens and in the patio of private homes while the latter is used by restaurants, cafés, and shops. Retractable awnings are ideal for business and home owners if they do not wish to have any permanent covering and offer you instant protection and shade in case the weather turns bad. Automatic retractable awnings are also available and are opened and closed through an electronic device.
Patio and Deck Awnings- A Great Way to Bring the Family Together
Patio awnings or patio covers are used so as to make your patio at home more useful during unpleasant weather conditions, such as snow and rain. Patio covers are a great idea for your garden as they provide an ideal space to relax in and enjoy the heat of a warm summer’s day, or to just sit and watch the rain pour down. Patio awnings are also a great way to protect any furniture on your patio from the harsh glare of the sun. Patio awnings come in a range of different styles, colors, and designs and are made of many types of materials, including cloth, therefore it is perfect for a budget of any size. Like patio awnings, deck awnings are also very effective as they help in protecting your deck from heavy rainfall and extreme heat. A deck awning creates a space where you and your family can gather together on a lovely summer’s day for an afternoon barbeque or where you can relax after a tiring day at work perfectly in tune with nature.
