A Good Way To Take In The Views As You Travel
If you ever find yourself in south-west London, a drive through Putney comes highly recommended. It’s a very green and leafy area alongside the river, so you feel as if you’re away from the hectic pace of the city, despite being close by. Fulham is across the Thames, with Wandsworth and Roehampton nearby. Don’t worry if you don’t have a car of your own; it’s very common for Londoners to abandon driving and opt for public or private transport because it can be much faster; the centre of the city gets very congested. Putney taxis are available around the clock to drive customers through the area, to any destination they require; it’s a good way to take in the views as you travel.
One of the great things about this district is that it has a village-like community feel, although it’s one of Greater London’s 35 major centres. There are lots of young professionals and families living here, many of whom commute into the city for work. There is a London Underground station at East Putney, but this is on the District Line - renowned for being one of the slowest tubes! It’s good if you want to connect to Earls ...
... Court, but for travel into central London it’s much faster to get the overground to Waterloo. Taxis in Putney are another easy way to get around, for both long and short journeys.
As far as nightlife goes, there are a few options to choose from here. If you’re looking for a cheap drink, Wetherspoons is popular, and a good pub called ‘The Fox’ is just across the road. It has large screens, so is particularly popular for watching sporting events. You’ll see some names you recognise, such as Walkabout, however there aren’t many places to party late. The nightclub known to the locals for a good dance is Fez Club; it may not be as glamorous as some of the establishments in the city, but it’s a much easier journey home for those who live in Putney. If you fancy a big night out on the town, it’s best to jump in a London taxi and make your way into the centre where there’s a lot more options; there, you have your pick of wine and cocktail bars, traditional pubs, theatres, nightclubs and discos.
Vintage shoppers will enjoy the choice of charity shops here, and there are also some high street stores. Again, the city is best for a big shop, but there are plenty of places to go to in Putney if you like to browse away from the crowds. A walk alongside a leafy park beats battling through Oxford Street any day!
