April 16, 2012, Pittsburgh, PA. There are so many different choices out there when it comes to welding helmets. We realize that many new welders may just buy the cheapest or “coolest looking” helmet they see, but there are many different factors that make the difference between a good helmet and a bad helmet. Lucky for all the new welders of the world, Mr TIG has created a three minute segment on the basics of choosing the right helmet for your needs; which can be found on Weld.com’s Mr Tig Blog, by following this link http://www.weld.com/index.php/mr-tig/45-tig-time-episode-4-choosing-a-welding-helmet or by watching it on our YouTube channel at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b6JT3u2eFJg.

By the end of this video you will learn:
• The basic differences between high-cost and low-cost helmets
• What shade numbers are needed for most TIG welding applications
• Common misconceptions for the price variations in helmets
• Why more sensors are safer
• And more useful welding tips…

As always, after watching this video, you are sure to come away with some welding tips that ...
... you were not aware of previously. Many people think that helmet is only for safety. Not so. Many has overlooked the fact that different brands out there help bring you different capabilities.

At 0:35 Mr. TIG starts off with the lowest cost welding helmet by explaining why it is so inexpensive. He then goes over some features and benefits and how you can fit it to your needs, even for TIG welding. At 1:17 he moves to a mid-range helmet. While the cost increases significantly, you see why in many cases it is a necessary increase. At 1:27 Mr TIG discusses the features of the automatic changing lens (or auto darkening lens). At 2:25 he describes the sensors on the helmet and why they are important. At 2:36, Wyatt moves to the most expensive helmet. He explains that the main difference between prices is the number of sensors and why more are better.
