Ideas For Conquering Milk Allergy

If you discover your baby or toddler has a milk allergy or is lactose intolerant, you will need the tools to overcome this problem in your child’s everyday diet. It is not always easy to tell what is suitable and what is not suitable and that is why you should always consult a healthcare professional. Some ideas here will give you inspiration for recipes that are completely milk free. Use a lactose free formula in the recipes if your baby is lactose intolerant or use soya formula if your baby has an allergy to milk. You should remember when preparing recipes that adding margarine or butter even in small quantities may irritate your baby. The food you serve should never be too hot but be lukewarm.
Suitable Recipes from 6 Months
These are the first tastes your baby will experience and food has to be in puree form for easy digestion. A carrot and suede puree that contains a soya/lactose free formula can be made by simply peeling and chopping 120g of carrot and suede each to 300ml of formula. Put all the ingredients in a saucepan and heat to simmering, then wait until the vegetables have become soft. Remove from ...
... the heat and puree with a liquidizer or by pushing through a sieve. Serve after checking the temperature. This recipe serves three. For a variation on this recipe, use 30g pre-washed and soaked rice or red split lentils, 60g potato chopped, 60g turnip chopped to 300ml soya/lactose free formula. Heat in saucepan then puree and serve at correct temperature.
Suitable Recipes from 7-8 Months
As your baby gets past seven months you can start to serve him or her soup. Potage soup, containing one leek, two large potatoes, one large carrot, 300ml vegetable or chicken stock and one tablespoon of vegetable or sunflower oil to 600ml of soya/lactose free formula is easy to make. Just sauté potatoes, leek and carrot for five minutes, then add remaining ingredients. Bring the pan to the boil and simmer for 30 minutes. Blend in a liquidizer or push through a sieve and serve at a lukewarm temperature.
A chicken and vegetable is a filling and hearty recipe. Take 100g prepared chicken breast and cook in 300ml soya/lactose free formula for 30 minutes until chicken is tender. Cook 50g frozen vegetables in unsalted water until fully cooked. In a saucepan, blend 15g of corn flour with a teaspoon of water. Add the all the formula then the cooked chicken and vegetables and simmer for five minutes. Remove from the heat and liquidize with blender or sieve. Alternatively leave chopped however your baby likes it. Serve after checking the food is at a suitable temperature.
Babies and toddlers with a milk allergy are getting more help from medical professionals these days as the condition is better understood and there are more dietary alternatives to milk recipes.
