Wayanad is a beautiful and rustic district of India, sitting on the southern tip of the Deccan Plateau forming the green barrier of Kerala. Perched in the majestic Western Ghats, in the north-east region of Kerala, Wayanad boasts of rich natural surrounding and a rustic ambiance which charms tourists from all quarters. Wayanad is one of the sparsely populated regions of India offering tourists a peaceful and serene ambiance to relax and rejuvenate.

Wayanad like any other hill station of India is blessed with rich natural beauty from the rolling slopes, verdant forests, plantations, lush greenery, paddy fields, lakes, waterfalls and much more. The region has quite a few beliefs behind its name, as per one belief Wayanad is the combination of two Tamil words (Vayal + Naad), Vayal meaning Paddy field and Naad meaning land thus, Wayanad literally translates into 'land of the paddy fields,, while another local belief says that Wayanad used to be formerly known as Mayakshetra (Maya’s land) which later became Mayanad to again finally change to Wayanad as it is now known as.

For recreation, there are quite a few interesting tourist attractions present in and around the region for instance, the Chembra Peak, Neelimala, Meenmutty Falls, Chethalayam Falls, Pakshipathalam, Banasura Sagar Dam, Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary, Muthanga Wayanad Wildlife Sanctuary, Tholpetty, Jain Temple, Edakkal Caves, Pazhassi Raja’s Tomb, Pookote Lake, Sentinel Rock Falls, Kanthanpara Falls, Sunrise Valley and the local markets among others. The local markets of Wayanad are widely renowned for their coffee, tea, cocoa, pepper, plantain and vanilla among others.

In addition to sightseeing and shopping, tourists can also indulge in various sorts of adventure sports activities like nature walks, trekking, hiking, etc, which are well facilitated in the region. Wayanad enjoying a salubrious weather is a year round destination and can be visited at any point of the year for a relaxing and enjoyable vacation.
