Allergic reactions usually occur when the body's immune system becomes hypersensitive to certain substances such as dust, food, drugs or pollen, which are called allergens, you come in contact with. This reaction is usually seen by visible symptoms such as sneezing, coughing, wheezing and itchy eyes. In severe cases these reactions to allergies may lead to a serious life threatening response by the immune system to the allergens called anaphylaxis. When the symptoms are severe the patient should be taken to the hospital immediately to get medicine to counteract the allergy reactions.
There are very many types of allergic reactions and the most common are:
Food allergies: This is the allergy reaction characterized by symptoms such as swelling and itching of the lips, tongue and/or the whole face, vomiting, dizziness / ...
... Nausea, respiratory congestion, sweating, cramps, diarrhoea, Itching of the skin resulting in rashes. These symptoms usually happen after one has ingested any of the food allergens which set off the allergic reactions. The common food allergens that are known to cause allergy reactions are wheat, tree nuts, peanuts, soybeans, eggs, cows milk, shellfish, berries, corn and beans. Sometimes these allergens are not easily detected especially when they have been used as ingredients when preparing some harmless food which the person with the allergy may not be aware of immediately.
Medication allergies: There are some medications that are usually associated with allergy reactions with some leading to the life threatening allergic reactions called anaphylaxis. The most common are antibiotics of the penicillin family especially those containing sulphur drugs, which cause reactions to allergies with symptoms such as itchy and tight throat, trouble breathing or swallowing, skin rash.
Insect sting allergies: This is when the body reacts to the poison found in the stings of insects such as wasps, hornets, yellow jackets, fire ants and bees. When the insects bite they usually inject some venom which then results in some redness, swelling or itchy hives/skin rash in the affected area. But if one has true reactions to allergies from insect stings they exhibit more serious dramatic symptoms which may even spread to the hands or face then to the rest of the body causing a lot of discomfort. If it goes unchecked by the health care provider it may result in anaphylaxis which is life threatening and may lead to death.
Environmental allergies: Some people are usually have reactions to allergies from certain items in their immediate surrounding environment such as dust, fibers, spores, pollen, mold, dust mite deposits, cockroach exposure, and animal dander. These allergens are usually found in ones surrounding in the office, at home or any other building in items such as the carpet, upholstery, damp bathrooms and basements, clothing and from pets. When one comes into contact with any of these allergens they get allergic reactions with symptoms like itchy eyes, nose and throat, coughing bouts, sneezing fits, nasal congestion. These allergens can sometimes lead to asthma which causes sensitivity to the allergens with symptoms such as irritation, swelling and inflammation of the air passages.
