The product label is what lures in potential clients, and it must be appealing, creative, and attractive enough to make the business garner profits. Many have devised ample strategies to make their products stand out from grocery shelves just by putting on striking labels, but somehow, that’s not enough.

Believe it or not, product labeling isn’t just about stamping the product with company information on cream-textured paper, there are also legal proceedings to consider. According to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA), the product label must include the name of the product itself, net weight, ingredients, contact information, nutritional labeling, Universal Product Code, and the US Department of Agriculture (USDA) grading standards. To reiterate:

Product Name

There’s truly limited space when it comes to product labeling, especially when the product’s name consists of many words. The product’s name must be able to communicate effectively to the customers what the product is all about; so the label’s font, color, graphics, shape, and material should make the brand name readable enough ...
... for an average person to understand.

Net Weight

Product labels must contain accurate mass and weight information. They must be stamped preferably on the label’s lower third panel.

Ingredients

According to the FDA, about 2 percent of adults and 5 percent of young children suffer from food allergies, with 150 of them dying yearly. That’s why product labels must contain a list of the product’s ingredients, preferably at the label’s front panel, so that consumers are easily informed as to what makes up a particular product so as to help them decide whether or not to patronize that particular product.

Contact Information

Placing the businesses’ contact information on food labels is relevant, as this is how customers can evaluate the product by giving relevant feedbacks. The name, address of the manufacturer, package distributor as well as the full address and phone number of the business should appear on the label.

Nutritional Label

Nutritional labeling is mandatory in product process labels. The FDA requires at least 13 to 14 nutrients to be listed alongside trans fat labeling guidelines. Customers may want to know the kind of nutritional value they’re getting from consuming or using the product. The results of a successful labeling campaign not only lead to greater and more positive brand recognition, but also to an increase in the consumption of the business’s goods.
