It is widely accepted that the Dutch culture is mainly liberal and heterogeneous. This is because it is made up different cultures, each giving room for other to dwell harmoniously in the country. The country is considered a safe haven for minorities because of the fact that the Dutch culture is one of acceptance. Going around the country you get the chance to see and meet people from different parts of the globe living together and forming a rich culture that is inclusive and gives opportunity to everyone. Culture mainly defines peoples way of life and beliefs and this also includes their art and architecture that are a big part of how people live. The cultural diversity of the Dutch is something that people appreciate all over the world. Most countries have one national culture that people identify with but this is not the case with the Dutch and as a result their art reflects this diversity in their culture.
To ...
... be able to clearly see this diversity all you have to do is look at their art, architecture and music to know that everyone gets to be represented in the Dutch culture. Although, their official language is Dutch, you will find that most people can be able to speak English clearly as a way of accepting foreign influence. Appreciation of art is vital in a society and if you are attending a Dutch arts event you do not need to worry because it is highly unlikely that you will feel out of place. Dutch art has been influenced by the culture and it is just as diverse as the culture itself. When you speak about Dutch artists it is difficult not to mention the golden age which is mainly during the late sixteenth century that brought to the limelight several Dutch artists. This was a result of the religious wars that took place during that time. This war divided the country in two main parts that up to date reflect the two main Dutch cultures. The two main cultures had Protestants on one side and Calvinists on the other. Some of the notable names include Rembrandt who was a protestant and relayed religious messages through symbolism in landscapes, still life and scenes of daily life. Flemish artists who became popular at this time and were Calvinists include Van Dyck and Rubens. Their art focused on displaying vivid colors and compositions that were livelier.
When you attend Dutch art events these are some of the differences that you are most likely to see in their culture. The difference is also reflected in the arts and you can note that most of the artists draw inspiration from this age. Dutch art events are planned not just within the country itself but also outside their country. The art events showcase art, architecture and music that are heavily influenced by the rich Dutch culture. The diversity of the Dutch Culture makes the attendance of the Dutch arts events diverse too because most cultures are well represented in such occasions.
