Everyone has particular expectations from a product, for some a mansion is their ideal home, for others a small flat is their ideal, but every consumer has to think about what they expect from a product against how much it costs.

To find the best value of any product is difficult, but the question to be asked is "what is best for that particular consumer?" Everyone has particular expectations from a product, for some a mansion is their ideal home, for others a small flat is their ideal, but every consumer has to think about what they expect from a product against how much it costs. The selection of timber doors is no different to any other product

Selecting Timber Doors

The first question to be asked is what is the door to be used for? Is it purely functional as security or is it required to be decorative as well? How a door looks is often the first thing that attracts us as we begin our search for the ideal door. There are a great many timber doors available in various designs and finishes from which to choose. The number of different types of wood and inlays used can make choosing difficult. You may want ...
... a primed door so you can add your own finish to fit in with your colour scheme. When looking at a door one should always touch it as well to feel "the quality", i.e. does it feel solid? Does it have a smooth finish or rough edges? Also think about how it will feel when you close it and if it gives the sense of solidity to keep your room cosy. If you are looking at a veneered timber door check that the veneer is of good quality, and if pre-finished that it is scratch resistant, also that the graining is free of knots or other imperfections. Once you have established the look and feel of your door, then it is time to think about how it will perform in use.

Timber Doors – Will they do the job?

Many timber doors are manufactured with cellular or hollow cores which keep the cost down, however this makes the door more susceptible to impact damage when used regularly. A door with a solid core door may be more robust, and it is also likely to be heavier so that it requires heavy duty hinges to support its weight. As the primary function of a door is to open and close and act as a divider between rooms, it is required to keep its shape to maintain a good fit in the door frame, not only to ensure it closes properly but also to keep out draughts. That’s why door quality is important, as the door you choose must meet your needs, both in terms of how it looks and how it performs in use.

There are many doors in the market so do the research, but remember to look and touch before buying.
