With the booming Halal holiday industry, Muslim travellers can now travel to various destinations across the world with peace of mind, knowing that they will not have to compromise on their religious beliefs. The island of Sri Lanka is situated in the Indian Ocean, off the southern coast of India in South Asia and is a centre of Buddhism religion and culture from ancient times. Although it is the oldest continually Buddhist country, Sri Lanka boasts a diverse range of cultures, languages and religions. Islam ranks third as the most dominant religion in the country, with 10% of Muslims in the total Sri Lankan population. Sri Lanka is one of the top 25 biodiversity hotspots in the world and has many species of flora and fauna just waiting to be explored. There are many national parks – the most visited is Yala National Park which is famous for leopards, elephants and peacocks. Horton Plains National Park is a must visit with several endemic bird species, spectacular walks and the sheer precipice of World’s End to look forward to. Another tourist attraction that Islamic travellers should visit is Adams Peak in central Sri Lanka. According to Islamic folklore, this is where Adam first set foot as he was exiled from the Garden of Eden.
