Hounslow is a pleasant suburban development to the west of London. With easy access into the city on the Piccadilly Line or in Hounslow taxis, it’s a great place to live if you work in London but prefer not to sleep in the thick of it! It’s also a good solution for those who can’t afford property in more central areas of the capital but want to stay close by. However, as the city expands in size and in population, suburban areas like this are becoming more popular places to move to and more expensive to live in.

Interestingly, there is quite a bit of history tied to Hounslow. The small village was originally centred around the Holy Trinity Priory, which was founded in 1211, and grew into a larger town with regular markets. Although the Priory was later dissolved in 1539, Hounslow continued to grow into the Borough it is today. Hounslow Heath is an area of great historical importance; there is evidence linking it to the Roman and Norman periods, with finds from the Bronze Age and the Iron Age fascinating archaeologists. Nature lovers like to take a Hounslow taxi to the Heath, admiring the extensive wildlife, natural ...
... habitats and hundreds of types of plants; there are regular nature walks here. Hounslow Heath is a great place for dog walkers, joggers, school trips and horse riders; you feel a million miles away from the city when you’re in this vast open space.

Living in the suburbs is often preferred by families with young children; even though it’s close to the city, there’s often a village-like community feel. In the capital you’ll find that most people don’t know their neighbours, hurry down busy streets with their heads down and dodge traffic as they rush to work. Things are different in suburbs like Hounslow; you can walk your children to school without being bowled over, knock on a neighbour’s door to borrow a cup of sugar or ask them to watch the kids while you pop to the shop. It’s a very different environment to central London, despite the proximity.

The good thing about living within easy commuting distance is that you can still enjoy all of the advantages that the city has to offer; huge shopping centres, highly paid jobs, nights out on the town and easy transport links to the rest of the country. If you live right out in the countryside, it’s not so easy to find benefits like this! The suburban life isn’t for everyone, but it’s away to enjoy the best of both worlds.
