Fancy interior design that is as exotic as it is inviting? Try Moroccan Décor. Originating from the country of Morocco, this interior style has strongly influenced by African, Islamic, European, Mediterranean and Persian aesthetics. Together these influences result in a style that is unique and immensely appealing. Here we take a look at the different elements of Moroccan design and how you can incorporate them in your home.

The right colors can set the mood for any kind of interior style. For Morocco, you need shades that are reminiscent of the vast and varied landscape of the country – from long and languid coast lines to hot and blazing deserts. The bright reds of the sun combined with the blue green hues of the ocean can make for a powerful and eye catching blend. This color contrast may not ideal for those with conservative tastes; but is great for those who’re willing to experiment and appreciate the eclectic. Moroccan décor is incomplete without shades like ochre reds, shimmering blues, blazing oranges, greens, gold and silver. You can further bring in a bit of Morocco into your home by investing in some quality furniture from the region. Typical Moroccan is set low to the ground and generally, extremely comfortable. They also have a distinctively earthy feel that’s reminiscent of the way the Moroccan people live their lives. The furniture is generally made out of wrought iron or wood; often with a lot of intricate carvings. Mother of pearl in lays is also a common feature.

The use of mosaic tables, add a fun yet authentic element to your Moroccan interiors. These are generally available in a bouquet of colors and can impart that much needed vibrancy into any room and also make it more inviting.

Rich and decadent fabrics are also hallmarks of Moroccan décor. You can get jewel shaded curtains or richly embroidered cushions and throws in velvet. You can further enhance the ambiance by including thick and genuine Berber rugs. Also, place Moroccan lamps wherever you can for lighting to compliment the décor.

Natural elements such as plants are also a regular feature of most Moroccan homes, and thus, you would do well to place potted plants in strategic places around your home. There are several plant types that go well with Moroccan décor and you should ideally find ones that are suitably lush and exotic – with the distinctive feel of an oasis.
You may want to use Moroccan artwork to complete your Moroccan décor. Look for art made of burnished metal or ribbon brocades in metallic colors to be draped around Moroccan furniture or accessories for a luxurious feel.

You can further emphasize your Moroccan décor by bringing in Middle Eastern scents to appeal to the sense of smell as well. Cinnamon, nutmeg or the fragrance of other exotic spices can truly make your interiors come alive.
