Language therapy is used to correct difficulty understanding or putting words together to communicate ideas. Such defects may originate in the brain, the ear, or anywhere along the vocal tract and may affect the voice, articulation, language development, or ability to speak after language is learned. Therapy begins with diagnosis of underlying physical, physiological, or emotional dysfunction. It may involve training in breathing, use of the voice, and speaking habits. Some abnormalities that cause speech disorders can be corrected to various degrees through speech therapy activities.

Speech impediments also referred to as speech disorders occur when normal speech is disrupted. It can be developmental in that most children will generally go through a stage of disfluency i.e stammering, fronting or lisping and gliding over sure letters. Certain sounds develop at different stages of childhood, and that is why these developmental errors occur. However, if these persist beyond the appropriate age, you should seek a speech and language therapist who will diagnose and treat the speech disorder.

PROMPT stands for Prompts ...
... for Restructuring Oral Muscular Phonetic Targets. It is a speech-language treatment technique allowing a trained therapist, during the communicative exchange, to physically manipulate a child’s jaw, face and mouth to show him/her how a speech sound, sounds in the words, or words in sentences are produced. PROMPT therapist uses various techniques that target the sensor motor and programming difficulties of this disorder.

"Articulation" is another name for speech sound production. The development of speech sounds begins gradually with an infant's cooing of vowels and babbling of syllables, to a toddler's first attempt at words. There is a typical developmental sequence in which children acquire speech sounds by articulation therapy.
Speech-language pathologists (SLPs), often informally known as speech therapists, are professionals educated in the study of human communication, its development, and its disorders. They hold at least a master's degree and state certification/licensure in the field, and a certificate of clinical competency from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). In speech-language therapy, an SLP will work with a child one-on-one, in a small group, or directly in a classroom to overcome difficulties involved with a specific disorder.

Speech Pathology job opportunities provide structured and supportive rotation program and will have the opportunity to work in multiple service areas. With advanced speech therapy positions, a speech pathologist may be able to get a wide range of chances. In the speech therapy field, salary can vary greatly, depending upon the job setting and the level of experience a therapist has.

A speech or language problem that isn't treated on time can result in serious problems for the child later in life.
