Quilted jackets are very stylish and also very practical for wearing in rainy Britain. They have a waterproof layer, they will keep you warm during chilly winter days, and they come in many different colours and styles so that you will always look chic.

If you love your jacket dearly and want to keep it looking new as long as possible, you can clean it every so often. Cleaning quilted jackets keeps the dust and debris off of them protects the fabric from damage, keeping them in good shape for many years.

Here are some tips on the proper way to clean this type of jacket:

Wipe Down the Jacket

The first step is to wet a sponge with cold water and wring as much of the water out of it as you possibly can. It should remain slightly damp, but if you leave too much water you will end up soaking your jacket. Now, gently wipe down the inside and the outside of the quilted jacket to remove the dust and dirt which has settled on the surface. You will be surprised by how much dust and dirt your jacket picks up just from you walking around outside.

Keep in mind that you should only use cold water when cleaning ...
... this type of jacket, because hot water will remove its waterproof protective coating.

Once the coat is completely wiped, hang it on a clothesline and let it dry naturally in the sunshine. If it is raining outside you can hang it up inside.

Apply the Wax

There are various waxing products that you can buy which are designed for the waterproof coating on quilted jackets. Each will have their own directions, but in most cases you will place the tin of wax on a pot of hot water on the stove to soften it. Then you will dip a sponge into the wax and rub it on the exterior of the jacket, without forgetting the seams and creases.

You can then help the wax dry by applying a blow dryer to the surface. Once your quilted jacket is cleaned and waxed it will look good as new and will repel water magnificently.

Quilted jackets need to be cleaned a particular way to preserve their waterproof layer and keep them looking new. Here are some tips for maintaining your jacket.
