While the ready supply of cheap airplane tickets and discount hotel rooms as well as cheap vacation packages provide the means for many to travel, for some deciding where to vacation can be perplexing.

Would be travelers wondering where to go would be wise to check out Budget Travel’s list of most travel inspiring films of 2011:

• “The Descendants” was filmed in Hawaii and George Clooney was faced with the decision whether to sell his family’s virgin sand beach, lush mountains and waterfalls to developers. Part of the movie was filmed on the beaches of 3,000 acre Kipu Ranch which can only be accessed by private boat.

• “The Way” is the story of a father completing a 450 mile Camino de Santiago hike in northern Spain. This trek is famous as a medieval Christian pilgrimage route across the Pyrenees and through hamlets including Santa Marina de Valdeon. The film’s boundless landscapes are amazing as the travelers find comfort in shared heartbreaks and challenges.

• “The Hangover Part II” finds the same bad luck group heading to another wedding, this time at the luxurious Phulay ...
... Bay Ritz-Carlton in tropical Krabi. The Thai and Bangkok scenery is far more impressive than the plot line.

• “War House” was filmed in England and prominently features a Devon farm on which is an 18th century Ditsworthy Warren House in South Devon’s Dartmoor National Park.

• “Rio” is an animated kid’s movie set in Brazil. The movies’ stars enjoy nirvana once they reach Rio’s twinkling Guanabara Bay, take a blossom filled ride on the Santa Teresa trolley, and have all of Carnival playing matchmaker.

• “Midnight in Paris” is where Woody’s Allen star (Owen Wilson) looks to cure a bad case of writer’s block by wandering the streets of Paris and taking in Notre Dame, Sacre-Coeur, and Versailles.
