Take a look at any theater buff's wish list and chances are that you'll see A Catered Affair tickets right at the top. This show isn't like all those other musicals that seem to be all sound and fury but little else. If anything, this is a little musical that relies on solid music, a simple storyline and a cast of strong characters to make a solid and lasting impression on the audience.

The Musical Boom

Over the past few years, musicals have experienced a re-birth of sorts. This, of course, has a lot to do with Hollywood- thanks to the success of movies like Chicago and Moulin Rouge, the musical has experienced a surge of popularity on the stage. Shows that had been gathering dust on the shelves for a few years were suddenly pulled out and put on the stage, usually with a couple of big-name actors thrown in. However, most of these plays also had huge musical numbers. No expense seemed to be spared in putting together stunning choreography and special effects.

People with A Catered Affair tickets won't be getting any of that. In fact, the musical seems to follow the 'old-school' tradition of the musical, ...
... where a character's song seemed to blend in seamlessly with the dialogue. There would be nothing but the slight tinkle of a piano, the trill of a flute, but that was about it- before you knew it, the character was singing a song and you were tapping your feet! A Catered Affair also has an array of songs that boast of really catchy, yet intelligent lyrics. The song 'Partners', for instance, has some simple but truly great lines like ' No one to satisfy, No one to please, And no catastrophes.'

Real Characters

Another reason why A Catered Affair tickets are so popular is because of the characters that have been brought to life on stage. Of course, having stars like Tom Wopat, Faith Prince and Leslie Kritzer certainly helps! But the characters themselves are quite unforgettable. For instance, the character of Aggie is far more than just a housewife who has lost a son and wants to marry off her daughter. She is also a character wracked with guilt over the way she has treated her daughter over her 'perfect son'. In an effort to make amends, she unwittingly makes the same demands on her daughter all over again. A Catered Affair tickets also introduces us to the daughter Jane, who is not just a weary girl who wants to get married. She is also trying to escape from living with her parents, under the shadow of her dead brother. She doesn't expect anything exciting or amazing because she has never had these things in her life before. As a result, she's willing to just take what comes along and go with the flow.

Those with A Catered Affair tickets will not just be treated to some great show tunes. There's a fair amount of comedy and drama as well- in short, it's a lot like a good meal that leaves you completely satisfied in the end.
