The summer is almost here and you start to wonder how to improve your landscape to make sitting in your backyard more enjoyable. A great option for your exterior design is adding a garden pond. It is not a difficult DIY project, but, still, there are a few things you need to know before committing to the project.

First of all, you need to choose the type of pond, you want. Basically there are two main types of garden pounds: goldfish garden ponds and koi ponds (if you want to have any fish in your pond at all, since you can always just add some plants and be done with it). Goldfish are better suited for smaller water pounds. They are easy to take care for and “tougher” than koi, so if you are a beginner, you should go for them.
Koi, on the other hand, are specially bred to bring out different colour patterns. However, due to the inbreeding, their immune system is weaker. Therefore, they require better water quality and special water filters, warn plumbers London. They require more water in the pond for better biological break down of waste. They thrive ...
... best in larger ponds (over 500 gallons), as they tend to grow much bigger than goldfish.

Once you have decided on the type, you need to choose the design of the pond. This should be in unison with your lifestyle. For example, if you have a formal garden and enjoy catered sit down parties in your Victorian garden, you would probably want to get a formal pond in a regular shape such as rectangle, circle or oval. Combine it with a fountain in the centre or a statue, and you have an exquisite focal point for your garden. Most likely, you wouldn't want to add any fish either, so you can opt for an reflecting pool or a pool with a three tier fountain.

If you are the type of person who prefers casual scenery and more wild looks, you would benefit from a more informal type of pond. Any irregular shape will do. You can add rocks or boulders around the pond as well as a water fall or a trickling stream. According to painters & decorators, you will benefit from treating your pond as a balanced eco system with fish and vegetation, instead of making it a sterile environment with no actual life in it.
