Nissan India had been grappling to survive in the Indian auto market, the hatchback from Nissan; Micra also could not get that success for Nissan in India which it had been looking for. After struggling for a long time, the company finally tasted success in the Indian car market with its new sedan Nissan Sunny. Nissan Sunny was launched in India in 2011 last year in petrol version first followed by the diesel version and now rumours are doing the rounds that the company is thinking to bring the automatic version of the sedan. Nissan Sunny has a sleek design, comes packed with a number of innovative features. Nissan Sunny price begins at Rs 5.93 lakh (ex-showroom price) for the base petrol model and the top end diesel variant is priced at Rs 8.93 lakh (ex-showroom price). Nissan Sunny is being exported to other countries; India is the export hub for Sunny which is currently being shipped to various other countries. The export of Sunny has further increased sales of Sunny. The export figures of Nissan surged substantially with the induction of Nissan Sunny sedan.
The car is doing extremely well in the entry level sedan segment ...
... which includes other cars like Mahindra Verito, Toyota Etios and Maruti Swift Dzire. Out of these the new Maruti Swift Dzire is doing extremely well and around 15,000 units of the sedan are being sold every month. The company also raised prices of Swift Dzire diesel and the automatic variant being offered in petrol variant by up to Rs 12,000.
Entry level sedan have changed the scenario in the domestic market, it has not juts inducted a new segment in India but it has also given a chance to the prospective sedan buyers to upgrade from hatchback to a sedan which offered at the same price. Earlier owning a sedan was not as easy as it is now as the price of the sedan were tagged too high. With these entry level sedans middle class buyers can also think of having a sedan in their garage instead of just travelling in a hatchback.
Nissan and Renault have a common facility where their cars are produced mutually. Renault and Nissan will share platforms and Renault will launch a sedan which will be a rebadged version of Nissan Sunny. The sedan is named Renault Scala and is under development currently. Renault is expected to launch Scala by October 2012. Scala will come powered with a 1.5 litre diesel engine that pumps out maximum power of 86Bhp of power and a peak torque of 200Nm, the sedan is likely to offer a decent mileage of 20 kmpl. The engine is not just fuel efficient but will also emit meagre CO2. While the diesel powertrain 1.5 litre will churn out 97Bhp of maximum power at 6000Rpm and a peak torque of 134Nm at 4000Rpm. Renault until now have premium cars in its portfolio, be it hatchback, SUV and sedan, but with Sunny and Duster the company will foray into the entry level segment.
