The Difference Between Skiing Holiday Ideas And Walking Holidays
How far do you want to travel?
The beauty of a walking holiday is that it can be taken just down the road. If you only have a weekend to spare and don't want to travel too far, a walking or hiking holiday may be more suitable. Skiing on the other hand might not necessarily be available close to where you live and depending on the season may involve a longer travel distance. One of the beauties of skiing is that it is available in many far-flung countries, so it can be combined with a long haul adventure holiday. A skiing holiday can be taken in the U.S., New Zealand, Europe or even Dubai. Walking holidays, of course, can be taken pretty much anywhere.
How much do you want to spend?
Walking is free and this is one of the reasons it's so hugely popular. Skiing on the other hand is not, especially if you want to buy your equipment. A walking holiday also allows more flexibility when it comes to accommodation as it needn't be booked as part of a package deal, which makes it easier for you to make savings. That's not to say that deals can't be found for skiing holidays, however, particularly if you book early ...
... or late in the ski season and avoid the peak times.
Who are you travelling with?
If you are travelling with a large group, there's a chance not everyone will be interested in skiing, or walking for that matter. On the whole, walking is more accessible to most as it's easier, requires no skill and costs less. However, going on a skiing holiday with a group of like-minded ski enthusiasts can't be beaten. Children will get a lot out of both types of holiday. Most ski resorts offer lessons for children and some even provide childcare leaving you to go it alone for the day. Walking holidays are a great family bonding exercise as they give you the chance to catch up with each other's lives as you wander along.
How fit are you?
Both sports require as much energy as you want to put in, but skiing tends to require a higher level of fitness. For those recovering from an operation or in poor health, a walking holiday can offer huge health benefits. With both types of holiday it's up to you how much you do and you can stop and take it easy whenever you need to.
Both skiing and walking are great for your health and highly enjoyable. Both types of holiday can be taken in some of the world's most stunning places giving you plenty to take in. How you decide which is the best holiday for you will depend on a number of factors. You will need to consider your available budget, your travel companions and what you really want to get out of the holiday. Either way, you are bound to come home feeling refreshed and revitalised.
