Java is an independent programming language and the most organized platform for building rich business applications. Oracle has announced fresh updates for Java and JavaFx on 26 April 2012. It includes the delivery of the Java Development Kit (JDK) and JavaFX Software Development Kit (SDK) for Mac OS X. Enhancements have also been included for Java garbage collection and Java Virtual Machine (JVM).

Java developers will now be able to download Oracle's JDK from the Oracle Technology Network which also includes the JavaFx SDK for MacOS X. The company makes available Java Platform, Standard Edition (Java SE) 7 Update 4 and JavaFx 2.1 to the developer community. Oracle is also planning to release a consumer version of Java SE 7 for Mac OS X later this year. The company plans to include the complete Java runtime environment with this consumer version.
Let's take a detailed look at the various Java updates -

Java SE 7 Update 4
Oracle has multiple plans for Java in the coming years and it constantly works with the developer community to make all the plans turn to a reality. Along with the Mac OS ...
... X port, the company is also planning to make JRE available for all major operating systems, so that the Java users can exploit its latest features and security updates to their best advantage. The Update 4 helps in merging the performance improvements of JRockit JVM into the Java HotSpot JVM and OpenJDK. The company wants to merge both these virtual machines - Oracle Java HotSpot JVM and the Oracle JRockit JVM, so that the Java community can have easy access to the best features of both of them.

Java Garbage Collection Enhancements
Java garbage collection manages the memory aspect by reclaiming programming objects. This garbage collection is being updated in JDK. Garbage first (G1) is the all new garbage algorithm made available in the Java SE 7 Update 4. It provides predictable garbage collection for large applications too; and has been eagerly awaited by the Java developers' community due to its varied benefits. Oracle claims G1 to be a server - style garbage collector, which can be easily and effectively utilized for multiprocessor machines with large memories.

JavaFX 2.1
JavaFx 2.1 offers support for multimedia formats for both audio and video systems. It includes the Web View support for JavaScript to allow a user to render HTML/JavaScript. JavaScript in Web View can be used to make calls to Java APIs in order to offload specific operations to Java. Combo box, stacked chart, and application wide menu bar are the user interface enhancements made readily accessible in the 2.1 version. This version also includes the Windows-style LCD sub-pixel rendering for LCD systems.
