What Is Cloud Hosting?
With standard web hosting a web host company will have a server, or a rack of servers, and rent the space on those servers out to different customers. Those servers are stored in a very large data center that is very close to the web hosting company so that they can perform regular maintenance and upgrades to the servers. However, cloud hosting works in an entirely different way. And it’s a way that could truly benefit any website owner.
With cloud hosting, the web host company will still have access to many different servers, and these servers will all be connected. However, they will not all be together in the same physical location and the web host doesn’t typically have actual physical access to them. In fact in the most ideal situations, cloud servers will be placed in many different locations throughout the country.
So what’s the benefit to this type of hosting?
The secret are all those servers – and the fact that they’re connected. With traditional, or standard, web hosting, the server that the customer rents is just one server. It is not connected to anything else and so, it has limitations. ...
... It will only have a certain amount of RAM, only a certain amount of bandwidth will be offered, and it will also only have a certain amount of processing power and storage space. But with cloud hosting, this isn’t the case.
With cloud hosting all of the servers that are connected to each other are “in the cloud” and they can all draw from each other should they run out of resources. If one server needs more bandwidth, it can take it from another server, and the same is true for storage space, bandwidth, and anything else a website could need to function properly.
So how does this help the website owner?
With standard web hosting, if the server reaches its bandwidth limit or its maximum storage capacity, it will simply crash and shut down. The website will be rendered useless, and if it’s an income-generating website, a lot of profits could be lost. However, that won’t ever happen with cloud hosting. With cloud hosting, the server will simply take what it needs from somewhere else and the visitor to the website will never know the difference.
Aside from always having a website that is always running and always functioning properly, the cost benefit of cloud hosting is another that users find so helpful. Instead of playing it safe and paying for a package that has way too many features that the user will never use, they only have to pay for what they use.
Cloud hosting can be very similar to standard web hosting, but there are some key differences. And while those differences might not be evident just from looking at your website, they can save website owners a lot of money, and a lot of frustration.
